Today we are celebrating the 14th anniversary of S's Gotcha Day. Gotcha Day is a very special day at our house. It is the day we celebrate picking S up from the orphanage to bring him home forever. Gotcha!
I can still remember pulling up to the orphanage to get him in 2001. Many of the workers were standing outside on the balconies watching us. We could hear them saying S's name over and over to each other. It seemed unreal that all the months of paperwork and waiting were finally over. We couldn't wait to get S, finish up what we needed to take care of in Bulgaria, and bring him home so we could start living as a family of four.
Gotcha Day is a special celebration for our family. We have a special meal of his choosing and a dessert. We talk about the day we picked him up. We have often suggested that we eat the same meal we had for our first supper together in our apartment in Sofia, chicken noodle soup and dinner rolls. He opts for something a little grander than that. This year he opted to have a family fondue meal. Since J has practice tonight, our whole family celebrated on Sunday. Tonight he has chosen to have salads and cheesecake.
You will find me on the couch with chocolate enjoying my children and the blessings they bring to my life.
